Heated seat button

Postby Tuss55 [OP] » Dec 19 2011, 5:10am

My dad has a 2003 Silverado Duramax crew cab. He's had some problems with his heated seat buttons. He is a truck driver and knows about how the truck is wired, he asked me what may be wrong with it and I told him I know a group of people I can ask that may have had the same problem. What happens is when he turns on the heated seat for the driver side it'll stay on for less than 10 seconds then it will shut off, and every time after if he turns it on the time frame its turned on and stays on gets shorter and shorter until its down to like a fraction of a second. Also if the passenger side is turned on and it works fine, but when its turned on and he then turns on the driver side they both shut off. His question is in anybody's past experience if it may be the switch, the heating element itself, or a weak relay?

My guess is that you have a burned out seat heater element on one or both of your seats.

I have the same problem. Seat heater shuts itself off after about 30 sec. Had the element replaced, no change

Heated seat button

My bet is the switch. Not because I have heard of this particular issue, but bc the switch has been known to cause other problems. Like turning the seats on by itself...

Its also possible the element is pulling to many amps and the computer is shutting it off. Hence why the intervals get shorter and shorter... Im thinking it hasnt popped the fuse yet bc the circuit is rated for BOTH elements...

sounds like a driver's side heating element. the one that usually goes bad is the driver's seat bottom element. you can have him narrow it down by turning on just the seat back heat and if it stays on, you have a problem with the bottom element
