Heated seat part 2 FIXED

How I fixed my heated seat problem

Heated seat part 2 FIXED

Postby Brendon37 [OP] » Mar 21 2011, 11:58pm

About a month ago I posted a topic about my heated seats just coming on by it's self on my driver's side seat only. I brought it to the dealer and they said it was the heated seat module and it needed to be reprogrammed. Well my logic was that the switch tells the module to come on not the other way around. I thought the switch itself was bad. Well the dealer wanted $140 for a new switch. I finally found one on ebay for $40 and I just replaced it today and it fixed it. The heated seats all work fine now. Just thought I'd throw this out there if any of you other guys have had the same problem. Like I said mine came on by it's self not turned off by it's self and like a minute or so. I know these seats do that too. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the update. Feels good to fix it yourself doesn't it?

Yes it does. It was bugging the heck outta me knowing that something was broken on my truck and I just didn't want to fork out that much money for the dealer to fix it. Thank God for ebay and youtube how to videos haha!

Hey Brendon, thanks for posting that very useful info last year - I just bought an 03 Silverado with exactly the same problem so youve helped me out a bunch there!

Was it just the switch pack in the door that you replaced (with the buttons for heated seats and memory)?

Just thought Id post an update to this as Im pretty sure Ive fixed mine too. I couldnt find anyone selling a switch pack close to me (Im in the UK) and so rather than ship one over from the US I pulled mine apart and took a look inside.

Its easy to get the cover off but you have to be careful that the buttons dont fly off everywhere... I could see a broken solder joint for one of the LEDs on the circuit board. Im thinking that the vibration of the truck moving was making/breaking this joint and fooling the module into thinking the button had been pressed. Anyway, I re-soldered the joint (did all the LEDs just to be sure!) and its worked fine since! Only did it yesterday though so time will tell, but it used to come on after about a mile previously so Im pretty confident.

An easy fix for no money, so thought Id share it!
