HID Lighting

Postby EKinMN [OP] » Dec 05 2010, 4:29am

There has been a fair amount of talk here recently about High Intensity Discharge lighting (HID's), because of a Black Friday sale that occurred. Since then, I have become very interested in getting them. But, I have some questions.

I have read that 6,000K is the most popular. I have also read that 5,000K produces the most amount of light on the road. I want nice bright white light. But I also want the most amount of light possible. Which should I get?

Are HID's effective in the fog position? I am thinking yellow lights in there, so they are like true fog lights. Thoughts?

Thanks!

I ran 6k in my previous vehicle and from my experience and reading they are the best light output. Any higher and you are paying for the color more than how much the light up the road. I would consider 6k a very bright white, maybe a hint of blue.

In my previous truck I had 6k in the fog lights and they made a huge different in lighting up the side of the road for increased visibility. Not sure about your neck of the woods but I enjoyed it up here and watching for moose and other animals walking on to the hwy at night. I ran in some dense fog a few times and they worked great, although I think maybe a lower k bulb might work better, maybe a yellow like you mentioned. Either way it was a vast improvement over stock.

I will be receiving my order from Kryptonbulbs here soon and will do a thread with a how to install and review for everyone.

ddmtuning.com has amazing prices on hid kits btw.

i run a 6000k bixenon 55w in the headlights and a regular 55w 6000k kit in my fogs on my f150. they have a slight blue tint but more than doubled my light output (ford lights suck though) if i do decide to put hids on this truck im going with 5000k in the highs, lows and fogs

If you had 6000k that doubled the output, why would you go to 5000k next time?

I have the 6000K and I love the color when you are looking at my truck, but I would probably get the 5000K if I have to buy another set. I think the blue hurts when you are driving in the rain.
