HIDGUY.NET Product Review and Pics

Postby zikronix [OP] » Feb 04 2012, 7:34pm

Hello all,

This is a little review of the Hids I got from Hidguy.net I took some pics and some videos before my camera has issues so lets see what we've got here.

First lets go over what I ordered:
1 - H11 - Slim 35w 5K Kit with plug and play harness (Low Beams)
1 - 9005 - Slim 35w 5K Kit with plug and play harness (High Beams)
1 - 5202 - Slim 25w 5K Kit
1 - 5202 - Plug and Play Harness Kit
1 - Relay Harness

It is worth mentioning that HIDGUY is the only guy that is manufacuting true plug and play kits, no splicing, no shenanigans. Originally I looked at cheaping out on the kits and getting some from fleabay and making a harness my self, after investigating it was better to just buy the harness.

The hids come in a plain white box with the color tempature, wattage and bulb type on the box. With your shipment you recieve a check list that shows the quality of the item your getting. This check list makes sure that packing is right bulb type is right and shipping address is right. That doesnt mean mistakes cant happen but it helps prevent them.

Here is a pic of how the items come

Image

Heres a pic of the relay Harness

I went ahead and started with the H11 kit, Inside this box contained the ballasts, bulbs, mounting bracket and screws. Now I nixed the mounting bracket because I was going to use industrial velcro. Which in my mind is alot simpler and alot easier to use, and just as secure.

Heres a pic of the H11 Kit

as you can see the bulb, ballast and the true plug and play harness are pictured. Now I didnt take pictures of the 9005 or 5202 Kit becuase what you see the are basically the same. It is worth noting tha the 9005 Kit doesnt need an extra plug and play harness it just plugs right in to the stock plug. The 5202 Kit the plug and play harness is optional.

Now an important note about the H11 bulb. If you see the picture below you will notice the bulb ships with a white ring. You must remove the o-ring and remove the white ring then put the o-ring back on and seat the o-ring in the groove. Otherwise you will break the tabs off the bulb.

Image

It is also worth mentioning the 9005 kit the o-ring is a little larger than the halogen o-ring. This is NOT a defect from HIDGUY every aftermarket kit I have used has this problem. A simple fix is to remove that o-ring and replace it with the one off the halogen bulb. This may be a chevy thing but its done it on my s-10, colorado and now the silverado, but a good fix is just swaping those o-rings.

Here is a video of what im talking about.

Next up we went to the install. Now this is where I put the the some ballast, but I will probably end up moving them. These particular ballast is the 9005 and the 5202 ballast. As you can see I elected to remove the housing. Which that in its self is a pain in the ass which you will see in my video of me explaining how to do it.

9005:

5202:

After installing the ballast on both sides (you have to remove the airbox on the passenger side) I ran the relay wires....which in the end I moved to the other side but the idea was the same.

When I moved the realy I attached it to the constant hot binding post on the fuse box. This solved my inital complaint about the relay harness power wire not being long enough. You can see I ran the wire through the core support there are two holes that the connector fits in.

Heres a video of that actual relay install.

Now from here were gonna have to kind of refrence the video because my camera took a crap, and i moved some stuff around.
(Still Uploading)

And last but not least the performace of the product.

All in all I think the product from HIDGUY is a great product. The over all expereince was decent. I did have bulb mishap but hidguy was quick to replace and shipped the product priority mail. The support is top notch, and I will be ordering another few kits for my other vehicles and a few friends of mine will be picking up the kits as well. Do your self a favor and dont cheap out! Do it right! Thanks to dante and oscar @ hidguy for the assistance.

Hey, great write-up, thx for taking the time to do it. Just wondering, its been a month or so, have you had any problems with any of the bulbs or ballasts? What issue did you have with the bulb that you needed HIDguy to send you a new one?

I have had no issues with the kit or the bulbs. HIDguy replaced one of the bulbs that either I damaged or had a manufacturing defect. Either way the replaced it promptly and quickly.

Hey, thanks again for the write-up and quick response to my question.

So this truly is a plug & play kit right? Not a single wiring needed to be spliced? I'm looking at getting the 5202 kit. Did you find that people are being blinded by your fogs because of the glare?

The 5202 is full plug and play as long as you order the harness kit with it (additional 20.00). I have not been flashed once. In the video I know they look glary thats just the nature of the video but they are not really like that.

Your Kit is a DC kit though. We use to sell those at time or another. Our colors are a tad bit stronger then those and brighter. We got away from those as the failure rate went through the roof. So we decided to start having Kits manufactured for us as our Specs.
