How to Test Ignition Switch

How to Test Ignition Switch

Postby lathechips [OP] » Nov 14 2012, 6:43am

2004 Silverado 1500 still no cure for electrical problems as posted a couple days back. What test can be done on the key switch to the ABS, cruise control, blower motor, dome light. Is there contacts in the switch that powers up to all these? Still stumped

no the contacts are not in the switch, if you take off the column housing right below the ign switch is a black box that all your wires run to, its the actual switcher and has a wheel with teeth that turns with the key, it is possible for the contacts inside to fry

easy to drop out just unplug the harness and push in the 2 black tabs and pull down on the unit it pops right out, i would suggest testing the wires at the plug before doing this tho, be easy cause its opened up
