Interior Lights

won`t come on with door opening

Interior Lights

Postby kevin46-4x [OP] » May 09 2011, 3:44pm

My 1996 Silverado won`t turn on the lights when I open the door, only when I manually turn them on. I replaced the jam switches because they used to come on when I jiggled the switch. The headlights and key buzzer both work when the door opens. The daytime running lights haven`t worked in awhile either, don`t know if they`re related.

Did you by chance, break the wire going to the door switch when you replaced it? If you ground that white wire, the lights should come on. Pretty simple circuit. All the door switch does is provide a ground.

Would the Headlight / Key buzzer still work?

Headlight......yes. Key buzzer, probably not. It depends on how that circuit gets it's "door open" signal.
