Where to buy key fobs?

Key Fobs

Postby Nathan. [OP] » May 15 2012, 6:39pm

I bought my 2005 Silverado without any key fobs. I know my truck has keyless entry. Where is the cheapest place to buy replacement key fobs?

Cheap or not, you still need to get them programmed for your truck..so what ever you pay for the keyfob, you'll need to pony up a little more to have them set to work for your truck. Might be easier to go through a dealer..not cheaper, but you'll also have some sort of warranty and know they will work.

If I remember correctly all you have to do to program them is turn the key to on and hold down the lock and un-lock buttons on the key fob at the same time for a couple seconds.

If you get a set, and that actually works, let us know. I could use a new keyfob, as mine hasn't been working all the time as it should. Sometimes I need to push the button multiple times, standing next to the truck. I changed the battery, but that did nada..

I am in the same boat... bought my truck with no key fobs. Found a place on Amazon.com sells them for 40 bucks... and says you can program them yourself. I just ordered mine last night.

I stole this off of a different website

Instructions to program a keyless entry remote for a Chevy Silverado. They also work on 2003, 2004 and 2006 Suburbans.

Close all the vehicle doors.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold the DOOR unlock switch.
While holding the DOOR lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
Release the DOOR unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one keyless remote. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (one more click forward) position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
