LED tail lights ruining everything!!

Postby chrismoitoza [OP] » May 14 2012, 6:08pm

Ok, Having some major issues with my electrical system after installing aftermarket LED tail lights on my 07 silverado classic. First off I blew the stock flasher relay and then bought a new one made for LED lights. The brake lights work, the running lights and signals do not work even after installing the new flasher relay. Second problem, The truck turns over and immediately dies (2sec). Then I start it again and after five seconds of trying to turn over it finally starts and will run. Now here's the kicker, it runs but now when I drop it in "D" its like starting off in fourth gear. I have to ratchet up the gears 1,2,3 etc to get it up to speed! I have had absolutely no mechanical or electrical problems with it since I have owned it these last three years. As soon as I put new LED lights on is when all this began to go wrong! So anybody out there reading this I would really appreciate some input on this issue. The directions only warned that if the lights were installed incorrectly I could blow the fuses associated with the tail lights...not all these problems!!!

Yikes, first, I would change the lights back. Then check everything out. Are the lights from a company? Or did you add LEDs to a housing?

Definately need to get those lights taken off ASAP, if you bought a kit I would say you got a lemon, send it back for replacement/refund. If you wired them in yourself go back & check all your connections, make sure you have everything correct as far as the resistors & stuff.

Thanks guys. I figured out the starting problem and tranny problem, broke a wire on the back side of the fuse panel under the dash that i didn't see at first. Im sending these back now, I literally burned out two flasher boxes even the one for LEDs that cost me $85! I give up.
