Power Inverter

Power Inverter

Postby Joseph [OP] » Jul 02 2013, 12:08pm

I'm looking at installing a 2000 watt power inverter somewhere in the cab of my Truck. Does anyone know if there are any access holes to run the cables through? Drilling is NOT an option.

Thanks,
Joseph

Follow the shifter cable down under the carpet on the driver's side - there's a rubber boot that should allow you to run a power wire into the cab without drilling holes. Ground back to the body with a seat mount, and make sure you have a good clean ground surface.

Also make sure you run an appropriately sized fuse to protect your truck from spontaneous electrical fire.

Thanks for the reply Hink. Do you know of any holes under the rear passenger seats?

None that I'm aware of, although you may have cab vents on the back wall of the cab that would allow wire passage. This would not be my first pick, since gravity and vibration would likely result in wire chafing and the previously mentioned electrical fire.

Will do. I just have to find the time and wire. I'm stationed in Germany so finding the every day items are not so easy.

+1 ion the rubber grommet at the shift cable. You are going to need a larger gauge wire (costs more) as well and running that around an through the rear cab vents will almost double the length you use.

One way or another, you're going to have to cut something to get the power into your truck. Why not keep it clean looking and not like Jimbo used the rest of the duct tape roll? I'll bet there are any of a dozen places to install one of these where it could be kept both out of the weather and away from prying eyes.
