Projector or stock housing for hid's

Are the projector headlight housing's better for hid's? Or just stay with the stock one's?

A lot of people like the projector housings just for the looks. As far as performance goes with HIDs, I don't know for sure. I can tell you that the projector headlights don't come with HIDs, those have to be bought separately.

^ What he said.

Projectors will probably give you a better cutoff...but I think the stock housings have a decent cutoff as is. I've had good and bad experiences with aftermarket headlight housings...I think projectors were made to come stock and I don't know if I'll ever try throwing projectors on a vehicle 'aftermarket.' I just put HIDs in my stock housings this week but I've yet to drive at night with 'em since I'm working on other projects at the moment.

I saw a set on a truck the other day...they were really really clean and looked high end. I asked the guy about them if he had any fogging or anything like that. He said nope, I asked how much he paid and he said he bought them local and paid 500.00...I said oh. I requested no other info lol

Check ebay, they're like ~$200. Of course, if you buy local, you'll almost always pay more. I just don't think I care for what I've seen that's out there.

These are Spyder smoked headlights with LED's and LED halos. Projectors are amazing with the 12k HIDs that I have from DDM tuning. They light up to at least 3/4 of a mile at night. Thats the furthest sign being lit up in front of me and it took 45 seconds to get there going 60 mph. That includes 12k fogs also. They are from Carid.com and are about $272 I believe. Great service from them and easy to install. They are under lighting for the Silverados. The picture does not do the smoked look any justice however.

HIDs should really only be used in HID specific projector housings. Because of the length of the HID bub, using them in the stock housings causes the light beam to the scattered which can blind oncoming cars. A proper HID projector will focus the beam properly and give a nice sharp cutoff line keeping the light out of the eyes of oncoming vehicles. Plus they just allow the bulb to perform better. HIDs in projectors made for halogen bulbs are still better than putting HIDs in the stock housings, however they cannot focus the beam as well as projectors made to be used with HIDs.
