rear light wiring

left isde good, right side tail light not working

rear light wiring

Postby GilThorpe [OP] » Jun 22 2012, 10:34pm

well the right rear tail light is not working -left side works fine

checked the bulb -- its not that

I got under the truck, looked for anything obvious in the wiring, saw nothing amiss

I see the junction block -- is it really something I should focus on, or is it more likely that something is amiss in the bulb socket. If the left side is fine, I know that the wiring to the rear junction block is okay. with a 13 year old truck, am I wise to just replace both sides wiring harness' and the juntion block, or is that just likely a waste of money ?

all lights on the right side work except for the tail light

Did you see if there is power getting to the socket? If so, it will be a ground problem.

I think they are both off the same fuse.

^^ thats what I thought, and thats why I havent really started going thru the fuse box

I have a great mechanic, but hes gonna get a $100 or thereabouts to tackle this, and I can buy a new junction box and wiring harness for less than that, if those are in vact likely, or is there a history of the bulb sockets failing after 10 years or so ?

Up north where you are they may become corroded, but down here we don't have that problem. It all depends on the condition of the truck.
