Remote Start

Postby swervin36 [OP] » Oct 14 2010, 1:52pm

My 2010 Crew Cab is the first truck I've had with a remote start, I FREAKING LOVE THIS THING!!!!! Guess I didn't read the manual too well. I've had the truck about 7 weeks and have only used it a couple of times basicly showing off. Well this morning was a little chilly so I fired the truck up with the remote start a few min before I left. I thought that you had to program the DIC some way to get the heated stuff to come on with the remote start... I guess the sensors on the truck check the temp and turn all that stuff on for you.... WAY COOL.... :D It is very nice wiggling your 4th point of contact around in a nice warm seat first thing in the morning.....LOL Guess I'm getting soft in my old age....

Loved remote start I had on a 5.3 living in MT. Made those -20+ mornings so much more tolerable. Now my first year back in more temperate MI and different truck I havent even thought about remote start and winter is quickly approaching. Do they make remote starters for diesel that will cycle the glow plugs before trying to start? If they do are they way more $$ beyond your normal remote starter?

It's even better on a hot summer day. It cools it off in there for you!

I'm from Alabama so the heat doesn't bother me too much... If I had been living down there I would have never bought a black on black truck. The remote start will really start paying off in a month or two when the snow starts falling.

Love mine too. Yes, the truck will either turn heat or cool it off automatically. No need to sit anything as nothing will work as power is off till you put the key in ..
Thank you

Just a heads up. GM did a study, many years ago of aftermarket remote start kits. What they found is many of the lower quality units used relays that were prone to intermittent loss of connection (AKA electrical noise) and because of that caused the electrical system to be "dirty" which could cause the fuel injectors to fire off extra fuel at times. Over time, that activity would shorten the life of the catalytic converters. GM had a bulletin.

Factory ones are perfectly fine. No need to worry. Enjoy the option. I wish my truck had that feature. Thank God I have a garage here in Michigan.

Interesting: Does that apply to the Duramax too.
Cause when I go out in the morning after my truck has been running under the remote start. It stinks!!!

Hey Swervin36
Glad your enjoying your remote start. I especially like using it when there is people standing around my truck or just simply checking it out. Duramax with remote start and keyless entry is awesome.
