2000 silverado key fob

replacement key fob

Postby burnsey166 [OP] » Sep 21 2013, 7:31pm

Hey guys,

I have a stoopid question...I have the standard GM key fobs (#15732803), lock-unlock-panic, for my 2000 Chevy Silverado.

And my fobs are wearing out. I have already taken them apart and cleaned them with contact cleaner, but now they're just getting oooolllllddddd.

Besides a same fob replacement, are any of the newer GM fobs a acceptable replacement? like the fobs for a 2010 Chevy Silverado (#20369056)?

And the second question...can I program a new fob myself in my garage, or will I need to take it to the dealer and use a scan tool?

Thanks in advance,

I lost a set of keys <<< My wife drove away with them on the trunk >>> my salesman found Me a spare Fob and I bought a new key and the dealer flashed the key The Fob should work if it's the same # >>> The ones with the remote start are trickier <<<

I buy new fobs on ebay, and yes you can program them yourself.

I recently purchase a 2001 Silverado used and it didn't com with any key fobs. I know that you can order them online but they have two options. How do you know what one is right for your vehical? The dealer wouldn't share this information with me.
