Reverse light bulb wiring question

Reverse light bulb wiring question

Postby StarsnBars [OP] » Feb 17 2011, 1:19am

Hi all, first post on this forum. Looks like a winner. Well my 2011 chevy silverado 1500 Z71 is about a month old now. Really like the truck. I tried installing a Peak backup camera today and ran into a small snag. Directions said to wire one wire to each backup bulb wire. Question is there are 3 wires going to the bulb . 2black and one green. So which Black wire do I use ? Or does it matter.. Positive to green , negative to ?.I just want to make sure I do it right so any input would be nice. Oh one other thing, what's the deal with battery location under the hood. Getting to the negative post to unhook is pretty much impossible for my meat hooks. The directions on the camera install said to unhook negative post before wiring in . Do you think this is necessary? I'm using the crimp connectors. Thanks,,,

I assume you checked which wire is your back up circuit and it is green. Yes, tap into that circuit. Not sure why you have two black wires but either one should work for ground. If you are concerned, wire in your own. If you cannot get your hands down in there to remove the ground cable, you can remove the positive but be sure your wrench does not touch ground and short out. VERY IMPORTANT! This should help also.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much figure I can tap either black wire going into the reverse bulb (neg) and tap green wire (pos). So using a crimp connecter how big a deal is it to tap with battery connected ?

I just hooked up a Yada digital wireless camera to my '11 Sierra SLT. There are three wires going into the reverse light. Yes, two of the wires are black. No brown wire. Green wire is the positive. Hooked up the red camera wire to the green wire, and the black camera wire to a black wire. Which one? - the middle wire.

As long as its a black wire your good. I'm on my second truck after this year old post and installed another Peak in my new truck. I just grabbed the handiest black and tapped. No problem.
