ONLY SPORADIC PROBLEM

SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT

Postby 07BlackOps [OP] » Jun 09 2013, 2:23am

I noticed here recently probably every 3-6 days my service engine soon light will come on and stay on for about 2-4 days then go off for 3-6 days again. I had the code scanned and it comes up with a Knock Sensor Bank 1[/size]. Ok easy fix?! I know the part isnt that expensive, but if there really is a knock using 87-89 octane fuel. What else could be the problem and where the hell is the knock sensor located and how hard is it to fix.

More details. 6.0L Gasser 182K miles regular oil changes every 2800-3300 miles. Thank You

There is a how to in the DIY section on replacing the knock sensors. The rear sensor gets moisture in it and fouls the sensor. It is a pretty involved process, but straightforward.

It'll definitely take a few hours. It can be done with patience though.

The knock sensor wells like to collect water, especially if you like to wash your engine off. Make sure you build up an RTV "dam" around the sensors to keep water from entering the well.
