My experience has been that someone installed a "one contact" bulb in a "two contact" socket. Turn signal/tail light bulbs have two filaments. Backup and some turn signal only (yellow lens) lights have one filament. By design, one bulb will not fit into the others special socket but you can force it in. A shorted "two filament" bulb can do it too. What I mean by that is inside the glass bulb, one filament broke and is now touching the other filament.

Have you recently changed any turn signal/tail light bulbs or added any trailer wiring pigtails? If not and you feel your bulbs are all good, I would go around your vehicle see if you find any obvious clues (typically in the rear) and if not, start looking at any trailer wiring and'or a shorted 7 pin outlet at your rear bumper or a 4 pin harness you may have added. ;)

Did some look as well, the only recall I could find with that issue was on the 2004 Trailblazer. That relay is $100.00 and it is located under the steering wheel behind the plastic cover.
