tail lights quit working

Postby mk1monster [OP] » Jul 13 2010, 9:39pm

Hey I have a 91 s w/b, single cab silverado. My tail lights just suddenly, out of the blue stopped working all together. I have no blinkers, brake lights, reverse lights, running lights... nothing. All the bulbs are new, the headlight switch is fine( took it apart and inspected). I don't know what's up. Any ideas?

I didn't see you mention fuses. Have you checked all fuses including the ones behind the panel in your dash near the steering wheel and the ones under your hood? I'm not real familiar with 1991's but hopefully someone else is.

Its got to be a fuse, if not I guess it could potentially be a bad relay somewhere in the vehicle. I would second check the fuses...probably the best to start, especially since its just the rear....cause they are probably on the same circuit

ok all the fuses under my dash are good. If there is a fuse panel under the hood i don't know where. I didnt see any. but as far as the relays where might the relay for that be located? Or, where is the under hood panel?

for the '91 look on the drivers side fender close to the firewall under the hood. It will be a black box about 6" x 6" with a plastic clasp holding the top on both sides of the top. Just undo the clasp and take off the top. You should see a diagram in the inside of the top where it will explain which fuse is to what.
I'm an old country girl, I drive a truck.
So sit down, shut up, strap in and hang on, we goin' muddin!

I had the same problem as of yesterday. It needed a new brake light switch so it was replaced and the bulbs are new. Hoping you have solved the problem.
