truck shuts off while making a tight turn

Postby jon777 [OP] » May 15 2012, 4:14am

My truck has on occasion completely shut off when I make a tight turn such as a U-turn or turning into a driveway, it happens when I turn the wheel all the way and hit the gas, it will completely turn off, I have to put it back into park and turn it on again, I haven't had any problems with turning it back on, but just thought it was kind of odd, it doesn't happen every time either. Has anyone had this happen to them? Know what the problem may be?

Yeah I've never heard of this happening with any car before and neither has my mechanic, searched the forums and doesn't look like anyone has posted anything about it either, it doesn't really bother me, it only happens once in a while and it turns right back on, it's just more out of curiosity, I think it's very odd

My guess would be a loose ground as well.

I had the same problem with my 03 Sierra regular cab long bed. It would hate tight turns, but was fine other than that. I am not sure if it was the problem or not, but a short while after it started my throttle position sensor went bad. I replaced it and never had a problem with it after. But beware that those 4.8 engines don't just have a sensor to replace. The sensor is integrated into the throttle body so you have to replace the whole throttle body. Once again, not sure if that will cure your problem but I sold mine with 227,700 on it and she still ran like a top! Good luck!!!

truck shuts off while making a tight turn

Postby Machster69 » May 15 2012, 11:07am

I drive a 109 aerial at work, started have issues with it sometimes sstalling when the letting off the gas and the jake activated. After weeks of trial and error, we changed grounds(but also a load of other things) and it hasnt happened since.. I think this was bc of the motor torquing(moving) hard to one side and loosing a connection. The only thing making sense to me is the idea that hard twisting/torquing when your turning hard is dropping a connection, maybe even at the fuel pump?

Thanks for the replies. Now that I think of it I'm pretty sure it happens when I let off the gas as well. When I start the turn I obviously hit the gas and then let off a little as I go into the turn. I'm no master mechanic by any means, but I can get by, is it difficult to check or fix the grounds?

Um not a mechanic either... Jordan is. But i have seen where wiring connections "look" fine but in fact are substandard...

As stated above, they can not reaslly be checked by just looking at them. I would suggest just taking all ground connections loose, scuffing the areas a bit with some sandpaper and then put them back together. It's not hard work at all.

Does this happen at a very slow speed 10mph and under?
