Upgrade to DIC switch

Upgrade to DIC switch

Postby Drock750 [OP] » Aug 05 2010, 2:08am

I did the DIC upgrade panel today. The install
was pretty simple and straight forward. The
wires are allready there, just replace the panel
and plug it up.

I believe he is referring to the Driver Information Center upgrade which is an instrument panel trim plate which provides access to vehicle information and personalization options with the touch of a button. You can set the vehicle and driver preferences such as locking, lighting and seating options as well as view vehicle information such as average fuel economy, fuel range, and more. I think you can even view the tire pressure on some trucks.

Here is a panel for reference...

My question to Drock750 is... WHERE IS THE FREAKIN' PHOTOS AND WRITE-UP ON YOURS?!

Wish I was thinking, I would have taken a few pictures. I did this on the spur of the
moment after work. My truck didn't have the Driver Information Center, I thought
it was a nice add on so I picked one up. Here are the steps that I did If you guys
would like to give it a shot...

1. Remove the outer trim panel covering your fuses.
2. Remove parking brake release handle ( one bolt ).
3. Remove panel parking brake handle connects to ( two bolt's and pull it off carefully! )
4. Remove headlight switch trim panel ( carefully 6 retaining clips inside )
5. Unplug headlight switch, other wire connected to a dummy port on the panel
is for the DIC. Remove headlight switch and install in new DIC panel.
6. Connect wires and reinstall new DIC panel.
7. Reinstall other panels, connect parking brake release handle and your done...

Again, be carefull if you pull the panels off watch out for those clips

Nothing to it really, cost about 65 bucks not so bad I guess.

How about a "before" photo? What year/model truck? You mean the DIC stuff is all in there, and just needs the control panel? Whodathunk?

We'd like someone to photo-document this procedure and we'll put it in the "How-To" section.

I don't know, but if I were GM, I think I would have chosen a different acronym, like maybe "DIS"?

But hey, that's just me.
