Thanks but my problem is that the truck doesn't have its original engine. The first motor was also a 4.3 and hopefully the same alternator, but to be sure is there anyway I can tell on the alternator what its amperage is?

Quick question, whenver I use my windows at night with my headlights on (low or high, doesnt matter) when using power windows, i notice the headlights brightness decreases. Im assuming this is the alternator? It is effected even more when my phone charger is plugged in also.

Pretty typical for them to dim some. The degree at which they are dimming could be an issue. But even a healthy alternator will let headlights dim as a load is put on the system!

Will it hurt my truck if I put an alternator on it that is more powerful than the original?

Alternator should have the amps stamped into the case. Look for stamped numbers with a A at the end, i.e. 140A

I found this post searching for how to determine which alternator I have as well. I have a K68. But I see alternators and generators. So it seems I have a generator instead of an alternator. Pardon my ignorance but what is the difference?

I have been trying to get to the bottom of this myself with little luck.
I have been told the K68 is a modern alternator and not an old timey generator that is basically a DC motor.
Why they call it that and have a separate 105 amp alternator is still a mystery.
Any GM alternator specialists that can explain this ?
I know you are but what am I?
