I am writing this post specifically for truckers with a volant cai system. Im curious about your performance changes and mpgs after install.
I've got a 2010 silverado 5.3 and I installed a volant cai w/powercore filter at about 500 miles on the motor. I now have 1100 miles and it seems that my mpg's went down significantly. Unfortunately, I put the cai on too early to track stock mpg's, but im pretty sure i was getting 2-4 better than after the cai install. Now Im getting around 12 city and 17 highway after the install.
Maybe the truck will improve with more miles on the motor, and maybe the computer hasnt fully adjusted for the cai.
I did have a few questions about your install. Did you completely remove the factory vacuum tube and use the volant one? Im not sure if it would make a difference, but I routed the volant vacuum from the cai and connected to the factory vacuum tube which then plugs into the intake.
Also, did you have any issues bolting on your mass air flow sensor? I put on the volant o ring and screwed it in, but it didnt seem to have the same snug fit and finish as the factory maf position..

I do not have the Volant, i have been looking at purchasing one though. I have noticed on CAI i have owned in the past that the mileage does go down due to using the gas more, we don't even realize we do it, we like hearing the noise of the CAI and if u have an exhaust it just magnifies the sound. A lil romping here and there will lower it. I could be wrong and this not be the case but i thought i would just share

That is true, It is way more fun to drive "aggressively". Hopefully, that is all that's causing my lower MPG's, I just wanted to compare with other volant guys to make sure my results are not abnormal. (indicating that I may have possibly made a mistake in installation, or there is a problem) I want to get the most out of my investment!

if you are getting more air into the engine you are using more gas as well. Just sayin'.

I guess I assumed that I would be running more efficiently with more air going into the motor, but I suppose I should know better than to "assume"...
I really just wanted to know if my results were typical of other volant cai installs.
I did notice I got 22mpgs on my last hwy trip. I have decided not to worry about fuel though. I love my truck, I love the exhaust note, and I love driving it like a champ.
FYI, here in central Michigan, most Shell gas stations are offering 10¢ off per gallon(!) with your Kroger card!

I know this is old, but im looking into a volant myself for my new to me 08' 5.3L.

once you got past the urge to romp the gas, did your mpg level back out or are you still having fun with it causing your mpg to stay down ?

im not super worried about mpg " hence buying a truck " but im just curious for gains ?

I put the Volant CAI on my 2011 Sierra with the 6.2L (standard oiled filter). I have experienced no mpg increase or decrease. I was getting 13.5 before the Volant and now am getting 13.6 (whoopty-doo). What has changed is there is certainly a more throaty growl when I accelerate. As for performance gains... who knows. I feel the throttle response is slightly better, but that could be just me wanting to feel something.

really mpg isnt a concern, I havent even finished my first full tank yet, and im just past 1/2 a tank...

so far im doing great on mpg compared to my previous explorer !. plus ive seen some dyno charts, and the volant intake makes impressive numbers for just an intake !
