2014 Silverado LTZ Engine Problems

2014 Silverado LTZ Engine Problems

Postby jpritche [OP] » Aug 05 2013, 11:31pm

So a little back info. I signed the papers on a 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ with all the bells and whistles 15 days ago(July 21st). I traded in my 2009 370Z in on it, so I told them a I needed a few days to get all the parts off of the car before trading it in(intake, exhaust, coilovers, rims, system, sway bars, etc, etc, etc).

So fast forward to that wednesday(July 24), I pick the truck up and everything. Well I put it in reverse and go to pull out of the lot and the check engine light comes on. I was PISSED. Long story short,it was throwing code P0300 and something else so they replaced the injectors and the IPDM. It was a BRAND NEW TRUCK. Not even 10 miles on it. I get over that and chalk it off as shit happens.

I pick the truck up last monday (July 29th) right before they closed. I drive it home and it drives great for a week.

This morning(August 5th) I crank the truck to head to work. BAM. Check engine light is on, the truck is shaking so bad you can see it rocking back and forth. I turn the truck off and call my dealer. They arranged for a flat bed tow. Well I crank it up again to pull it out of the driveway to load on the flatbed and I notice the check engine light is flashing and the traction control light is on. The oil pressure is at 60psi and there is the faintest hint of white smoke. The truck is still rocking back and forth like crazy. We get the truck on the flat bed and I notice that in the rear there is a ton of water dripping from the exhaust(not the tailpipe, but the last section where it has the square resonator section). Upon further inspection it looked as though it was leaking from that resonator(again NOT out of the tailpipe)(I have ran the AC twice so its not condensation or anything). There was a black "oil like" streak around where it was leaking. The "water" was a tad milky and faintly smelled "sweet." It was dripping so much that it puddled on the flat bed.

The truck was dropped off this morning at 9:20 and I have yet to hear a diagnosis. I called up there twice today and asked if they have even pulled the codes and they still haven't. The service department is closed today so I will be calling first thing in the morning.

I just bought a $50k truck and I COULDN'T EVEN DRIVE IT OFF THE LOT. I am beyond pissed.

Does anybody on here have any idea what could be wrong with it? A few people have suggested possible blown head gasket?

Thanks in advance!

Man that sucks! Can't blame ya for being upset over that ordeal! I'd be asking for a different truck! The flashing check engine light means a miss fire. Why the traction light would be on also is beyond me, hopefully someone else knows. I'll be curious to hear the diagnosis. All the fluid leaking definitely doesn't sound normal, I'd also be thinking a blown head gasket

Can't help but this is why you don't go out and buy the newest and greatest as soon as they hit the lot. GM aint had time to work the bugs out. Sorry for your troubles tho....

I would honestly DEMAND a new truck.

Like you said, crap happens. They should make it right for you.

Thanks man. I have been reading up on the lemon law in Georgia and everything is saying 3 different occasions or 30 days being worked on. Today is day 6 or 7 in the shop. A lot of people have said though, with a lawyer I should be able to get it lemoned since its so new, but I don't know if thats true or not.

The traction control light has be baffled. The truck was in park not moving when it came on?!?!

Unfortunately, I must disagree. I know there will always be bugs, and I agree with that part. My 370Z was the first year model so I definitely understand. However, there should be NOTHING this severe with a new vehicle. There should be no difference in buying this truck the month it comes out or waiting 6 months...

I heard they put a stop sale on many vins of the new trucks too. Not sure why.

I would call GM and create a case with them and tell them you want a new truck. Give GM a change to do the right thing before going lemon law.

Sorry about your engine problems. I live in Georgia also. I would either get a refund on my money or have another new truck or the dealer would remember me forever !! slimjim
