5.7 V8

5.7 V8

Postby HenryDisston [OP] » Jan 21 2011, 9:46pm

How come the 5.7 V8 is not listed anywhere? I have a 2001 2500HD 4x4 and when I look for parts the only thing that shows up for this truck is the 6.0

The vin code is a "U" which makes it a 5.7 I'm confused :|

I believe in 2001 there wasn't a 5.7 was there? I thought the 5.3 replaced it. I had a 97 with the 5.7 and a 2002 with the 5.3. Pretty sure for 01 there is the 4.8, 5.3 6.0....

Could be wrong though.

The Vortec 5700 L31 is a V8 truck engine that was used in 1996–1999 Chevrolet/GMC C/K full-size trucks. The L31 was replaced by the 5.3 L 5300 LM7.

Are you sure you have a 5.7L? Any reason to believe the engine has been swapped? Are you sure you have a 2001 Silverado/Sierra 2500HD?

What can I check to be sure? the owners manual says the 8th digit in the vin is the engine code which is a "U" and the manual says the "U" is a 5.7

I'll take pics and post them.

a vehicle built in December of 2000 would be a 2001.
