bad fuel pump?

bad fuel pump?

Postby brownbear [OP] » Feb 12 2011, 9:01pm

can anyone tell me if I have a bad fuel pump......the truck cranks, fuel is spraying out the injectors, and the fuel pressure gauge shows fuel pumping the needle to around 9psi. It ran started and ran ok a week ago. I just put a new iac valve in and a fuel pressure gauge to adjust the fuel pressure from my new fuel pressure regulator. why won't it start??????/

Sounds like you've investigated the fuel side pretty thoroughly - do you have a spark? Something's gotta make that gas burn...

I know how to do it on small engine, but haven't done it ever on big V8 like yours. You can buy a spark tester; should be at your local auto parts stores.

Try this out. You should be able to test it just from cranking it over with the starter- just take it easy though, because you don't want to burn out your starter, too.

Wow you've posted all over the place. Sounds like your in a panic.
FIrst, check your fuse block and make sure the ECM fuse is good. I think it's a 10amp. While your at it, check all your fuses.
Easiest way to test for spark is to remove a plug, put the plug back into the boot it came from and while holding the ruber boot, touch the the electrode (the bent end of the plug) against the manifold, or cylinder head, and hold it there. You wont get shocked. If your neverous about that, use a pair of insulated pliers to hold the boot. Have someone crank over the enigne and look for a blue spark.

Double check your wire going from the ignition coil to the center of the cap. You may of bumped it lose while messing with the fuel lines.

Good Luck!!
