Banks CAI for 5.3

Postby gmc200753 [OP] » Aug 14 2010, 7:23am

OK. So I installed the Banks CAI kit last year Christmas. From the time I had installed it up until now it seems that at part throttle there is nothing more than a delay in power almost like its bogged down and a great deal of noise as you can hear the increased amount of air coming in. At full throttle it screams like a banshee and has no problem getting up and going. Since Feb. I have contacted Banks 3 times by email as they would not talk to me on their customer service line that Summit gave me the number to. I have yet to hear from these people in any manner and not sure what I should do next. My thinking is that I need to get a programmer. However, I don't want to spend a lot of extra money on something that is not going to resolve the issue.

Sounds like you have a leak, and it is sucking air after the MAF, check your connections, rock the intake back and forth and see if the couplers move a great deal or not. If you are all good, then I would look at a different intake, programmer is going to change anything. Unless you get a wideband and log your A/F ratio with LC1 and a tuning program like EFI Live, you won't know for sure what is happening.

You know this was supposed to be a simple bolt on and I have never had a problem with anything like this before. Not really up on the technology thing and may just end up putting a different CAI and mail banks kit back to them with a letter thanking them for selling quality garbage.
Are you familiar with Black Bear Performance? I hear they send a logging device to do a custom tune specifically for your truck. Only problem I have with this right now is that I have not completed things like the exhuast work and they say you need to have all performance mods completed before the logging.
For now I will re-check all the connections. Thanks for the help.

i have an AEM CAI on mine, and sumtimes i get the same effect, untill i hit the pedal enough to get the tranny to kick down, then she takes off like hell lol , its probly not the banks, banks has been killing the diesel market for yrs now, im pretty sure they know what there doin, also if i have my a/c on u can forget about takin off quick lol, im gunna start lookin into other possible causes myself, plugs and such, ive only got 50k on my truck so i couldnt imagine too many things being worn out to cause the lack of power
