cranks but won't start!

Postby duane4238 [OP] » Apr 26 2011, 10:23pm

My '98 Silverado with 5.0l was driven yesterday. Went in the garage today and it won't start. It will crank and crank and almost start but that's it. I can hear the fuel pump run so fuel should be OK. I hooked up my scanner and there are no codes. Truck ran fine yesterday. Only thing I know of to check is the ignition module. I'll take that out tonight and have it tested. Any other suggestions? I can't even drop it off at the repair shop. :(

thanks for the suggestion. I just got back in from the garage and I have spark, so the ignition system has just been ruled out as the problem. Now, I guess I have to check the fuel system. I can hear the fuel pump running, but I don't know how to check if the fuel is getting to the engine. I guess I'll replace the fuel filter in the morning and see if that's it. Any one with suggestions, feel free to chime in. Thanks!

get a fuel pressure gauge, tester. Connect it at the fuel rail and check the fuel pressure when cranking the engine over. Post back what it reads when have have tested this

Pull a spark plug and see if it's wet after cranking.

Problem solved. After changing dist cap and rotor and new plugs she runs like a top. It's amazing how time and miles slip by between tuneups. The last time I did one was at 80,000 miles and now I have 170,000 miles. Kind of embarrassing to let that slip. Thanks for the suggestions.
