Distributor Cap Question

Postby mud digger [OP] » Jan 20 2012, 8:25pm

I have an 84, K10, pickup. The distributor cap is the style where the coil sets on top of the cap. When I take the 4 screws out in order to remove the coil, it won't come out. There is no sort of fastening device under the coil, inside the cap. Did they glue these in by chance, or is there a trick to getting them out.

There is a rubber spacer under the coil that sometimes makes it difficult to remove. If you got a new cap you should be able to push the center electrode upwards and help push the coil out (do not do this if you plan on reusing the cap as it could damage the center electrode).

ASTE 25 - Thanks for the reply. I ended up taking the coil cover off, cutting the side of the cap where the coil set in, and just carefully getting under the coil and prying up on it. Worked pretty good.

You were also right, the rubber spacer was stuck to the cap and the coil.
