Just bought a 2001 Silverado 1500HD. Has the 6.0L with 105,000 miles on it.
There is a fairly loud ticking that is worse when cold and at lower rpm's.
I am guessing a lifter tick. Could an exhaust leak have the same sound?
If its a lifter would doing an engine flush solve this? Or is that a waste of time and money?
Any other ideas or suggestions?
Thanks everyone

Check for broken exhaust manifold bolts, 6.0s are well known for this problem. I have 3 broken on mine now and when it warms up it gets quieter. Good luck.
Check the manifold bolts but Im 90% sure its piston slap or a noisy lifter. 6.0 are notorious for it. My 6.0 has 13,000 miles on it and it ticks at idle. Completely normal. There's nothing you can do without tearing the motor apart so don't waste your time/money.
Upon further inspection I am stumped. I popped the hood and couldn't hear it at all. Manually turned the throttle and still nothing. Jumped in and put it in gear and it started once I started driving. I stopped and let it idle and no sound. Start driving and its back. I drove for about five miles and it went away. What the hell man! From the day I picked it up it did it for a thousand miles on my drive home. Now its screwing with me!
Then it's definitely more severe than what I said before. I would get it looked at asap.
