Engine Wiring Question

Engine Wiring Question

Postby mud digger [OP] » Jan 30 2012, 2:14am

I have a 350 in my 1984 K10. Directly above my oil filter I have a two prong plug. It has two flat prongs and three wires (pink, light blue, and I think black or blue) that run from it.

Does anybody have any clue what this plug is?

Does it look like it is a factory set up? It may be some kind of an oil pressure switch, however, those are normally on the top side of the engine.

The oil pressure switch is on the top of the engine. Right next to the distributor. When you say switch, you mean the same thing as the oil pressure sending unit, correct?

It is a factory set up. I will try to take a picture and post it. I couldn't find anything in the book about it.

Yes, I was talking about the sending unit. I just could not think what else would be down by the filter that would be electrical. I know the sending unit's are usually up on top. A picture would help a lot.

Does it go into the block? If it does go into the block it may be an engine block heater.

Hi Mud Digger,

Does it look like this??

Link: Auto Parts Warehouse

If it does, then it is the oil pressure sending unit. Some models had them by the distributor/intake manifold, and others had them down by the oil filter...

I hope this helped, :-)

Now I am totally confused.

1500VHO - Yes it does look like the picture you sent. However, my plug has wires coming from it. The picture you sent has threads for what I assume to be for a sensing line.

But, at the rear of the engine, next to the distributor, I also have an oil pressure guage switch.

I wonder if I have both a light and a guage. I will have to check it out.

Are you still going to post a pic of it? Also, if you can get ahold of a wiring diagram, that should answer the question rather quickly.
