But they can make you pay dearly for owning a new one and that in effect reduces the demand. Right now if you want a performance car like a Corvette, CTS-V, certain Camaro engines you have to pay a "Gas Guzzler tax".

On a CTS-V
Gas Guzzler Tax $1,300

This will likely force a lot of lubricating oils to become synthetic. I want to remember that there was no conventional oil would meet the 0w20 spec, not sure about right now. The thinner they go, the less conventional oil we will use...

I have no issue using a thinner oil, as long as the engine was designed for its use...

My 2012 2500HD requires Dexos oil. I thought I read somewhere a while back that the GM Dexos is really just Mobil one oil re branded for GM. Dexos is just synthetic oil the GM has certified. Oil manufacturers can get there oil Dexos certified if they wanted but GM charges them way to much to do so. GM came up with a way to make money from the oil, If you dont use it you void there warranty. Sux but what can ya do

I couldn't believe they charge an extra $100 to put synthetic in when you change your oil. I just buy my own oil and have them put it in.

Maybe they don't charge you extra because they have to use Dexxos in your truck?

I pay more then I use to, before Dexos on my 2011, I paid something like $40. That is how I found out my 2012 truck uses Dexos. when I took my 2012 in for its first oil change I looked at the bill and asked why the price jumped up about $10. Thats when they told me that my truck now requires Dexos
