GM oil consumption lawsuit

GM oil consumption lawsuit

Postby Sierralover [OP] » Mar 20 2017, 7:14pm

Has anyone seen this class action lawsuit that was filed last Dec? Kind of interesting. I'm not sure what they are going to accomplish by doing this besides lawyers getting paid. Extend the power train warranty which is already at 100,000 miles? Reimburse owners on oil consumption related repairs? What your are your thoughts on this?

Waste of time. im sure that's not the only law suit either.
Im on a never ending quest to gather up enough pop cans so I can buy a nice extended cab or crew cab, so I don't have to hide my head when im driving this strippy standard cab of mine. So people don't have to feel sorry for me.

Yah, it is interesting, but I wont even bother to click the link and try to read through it. While Oil Consumption does worry me, I have zero so far and have my AFM turned off. But it is still a real concern. Just not enough to read through a bunch of legal mumbo jumbo. If something serious and nationwide gets rolling, I will dive in a bit further. And like ferraiolo says, it is probably one of many going on.

There really isn't any legal jargon in that link. It just talks about unreasonable oil consumption due to low tension piston rings. Doesn't even mention AFM.

I do not have the years listed nor do I have AFM but for my education is the low tension rings the cause of the oil consumption problem? Why did GM use them? Since they went back to "standard tension rings" did that fix the oil consumption? Are AFM engines after 2013 as good as pre-AFM? I ask all of this for my general knowledge in case I am faced with buying one in the future. Any information to bring me up to speed would be appreciated.

The link says in part) that the OLM doesn't account for low oil levels. Anybody who reads their owner's manual should know that.
