Help!! Won't crank!

Help!! Won't crank!

Postby redrooster1977 [OP] » Sep 26 2011, 10:19pm

Ok, guys I need some experts on this one. I've done about all I can do. I've got a 2000 Silverado 2wd w/100,000 miles and the other day she just quit here in the yard. Thought maybe the fuel pump, so dropped tank and wired it to a 12 volt and it works. Then after some searching online I thought maybe the crank sensor.....removed that and put it on my dad's truck and it cranked-so crank sensor is good. Here's the weird thing: When switched on fuel pump dose not come on, no fire at spark plug either. Hooked a scanner up and says "error". Is it the computer??? Or relays in fuse box? Or what? Whatever it is it's causing the truck not to fire and fuel pump not to work. What can it be? Thanks for all the imput.

So what is it not doing? By the heading "Wont crank" tells me the engine wont turn over, but by your description it turns over but wont start. I would start by checking all fuses/circuit breakers. When you turn the key on-just before the crank position when all the lights in the dash are on-you should hear the fuel pump run.

Hey daddyo, Engine will turn over freely..... but fuel pump dose'nt come on and no fire at plugs either. I've checked the fuses and they look good. Also switched the relay/moduel for ignition with daytime lights(as they are the same) and still nothing.

Could be security system. If you have a factory remote it's a safe bet that it's got a dealer security system. Some allow starter operation but won't turn on the fuel pump or ignition. My '03 has a dash light of a padlock, Chevy calls it PassKey. You may also have a light that says "security".

If you have that, try this: If your battery is iffy you may want to put a battery charger on it first. This is the reset proceedure for PassKey. Turn key to "start" briefly and leave it in "run". After about ten minutes the security light will go off, turn the key to off for 10 seconds. Repeat this 2 more times, turn off key for 10 seconds and try to start.

If you don't have a "security" or padlock light on the dash, don't bother trying this. Go back to the fuses and hope it's not your pcm.
