Lack of Power

once at operating temp, truck is sluggish

Lack of Power

Postby 1990GMC [OP] » Jul 29 2010, 8:21pm

So basically the truck runs good until its at temp. It does have a slight tremble at idle from startup, but once it is hot and driven for a while it seems to develop a miss or something similar. I'm not real good when it comes to distributor cars so any ideas would be great.

Does your service engine light come on at all? You could always take it to AutoZone to run a quick scan on it to see if any codes do come up. It's free and could give you some guidance on where to start. koolz71 I think is on the right track, does sound emission related. It could be a very simple fix. Good luck!

My first thought would be a bad or wore out cat, then plugs, then plug wires, then coil, then fuel pump or fuel pump relay or fuel filter. All those things cause those types of issues, O2 sensor will just cause the vehicle to run in protect mode and almost always comes with a check engine light.

I would lean towards AMI CUSTOMS first thought. The catalytic converter is possibly clogged. A lot of the time they breakdown over time into pieces. I have seen this problem cause a check engine light to illuminate and sometimes not. Use a rubber hammer and tap on the converter usually you can hear the piece moving around the are loose. Hope it helps.

also hold a piece of paper to the tailpipe or your hand to feel the exhaust. You will def feel a differance if the exhaust is clogged. A piece of paper should blowing sideways.

I would change the pvc valve also & check egr also.Your fuel filter should be on inside frame rail on drivers side of truck.if you used seafoam I'd say replace it.Seafoam works great almost to good chances are it cleaned inside of tank & crud got into filter making it clog up.I learned that one the hard way.
