1998 was the last year it was used in Silverados being replaced in 99 by the 5.3.

It was used in the "Classic" (non-silverado) trucks until 2000.

2002 was the last year it was used in the express vans.

My stepdad's '99 Silverado 2500 4X4 had a 5.7L in it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the last 5.7s altogether went to the '04 Pontiac GTO's, as the '05 models recieved 6.0s

By the way, "shortblock" refers to the block and rotating assemble (crank, pistons, cam, ect.) Adding heads and intake and stuff makes it a "longblock"

The 5.7 and newer vortec engines are all considered Small Blocks. The old 396, 427, 454 are Big Blocks.

Pontiac used the same engines as the rest of GM, the difference with the pontiac 5.7 is it shares the Camaro and Corvette based engine. Which other then displacement, bore and stroke, share nothing with the truck based 350's.

2002 was the last year the 5.7 was used in a vehicle, in North America, but another thing to look out for is the ignition and injection systems have been tweaked over the years. The older system may not work well with the 2008 system.
