One nice feature is it does have drains to keep water out of your intake it will actually stay dryer than the stock set up.

I have done lots with my truck and am currently pushin 525hp out of my high output 6.0l
so if you need anymore ideas...

i have a 99 1500 silverado and plan to take it off road .... if i get the volant intake will that scoop under the bumper get and clogs from the mud? i know you said it will drain water but if more solid type things fly up there could it be damaged? last thing i need to do is replace the whole system after i buy it

the easiest way is what you listed----air intake--cat back exhaust--throttle body spacer--let everyone know how it went

I really can't speak about what the HP gain is because I don't own a dyno. On building your own intake I would be careful because you have a mass airflow sensor and dont know how you could add that by building your own.

I have a ton of respect for your honesty. LonestarEMT It's a lot of fun trying to find those different ways to find that hidden horsepower that is hiding in your truck. And it's even more exciting when you find it. but when people start dropping numbers on a forum of all the hp they found without backing it up with a dyno print out... I just find it hard to believe those numbers.

As for the topic at hand??? I believe (WalkInMyShoes) asked if we had any tips for a cheap hp boost for his 05 silverado 1500 z71 5.3l truck.
Until you can afford that Tuner. Help your truck to breath a little easier.
When you upgrade your air intake... don't forget to include your stock mass airflow sensor as LoneStar stated.
You can do an exhaust in your driveway if you were able to and had to save sum $$$.
Sounds like a nice truck. Try not to hack it up.
Save and do it up right. ;)

please elaborate how your truck is capable of 525hp without a blower or nitrous? and i would like to see some proof how a new filter adds 25hp, an intake is just a filter there really is no science behind which ones better.

i just want to add guys you want to do cheap, cut your exhaust off before the cat and put on a new muffler and dump it before the axle, then find the cheapest filter upgrade and do that, then throw on a 100 shot of nitrous, and bam you just beat every truck in town.

So many people are like that.. They say DON'T, your gonna hurt your engine. IMO All those people have one thing in-common. They don't know. And they have never tried.
All those brand name tuners like Bully Dog, PPE etc... All have very safe plug and play tunes.. They have to, or they would be buying engines hand over fist.
When you start doing live tunes then your taking the life of your engine in your own hands.
I plan on getting a proven professional to do my tune when the time comes.

i just got the bully dog programer in my truck i am really happy with it so far, it says running on high prefomace mode you have to run 91 or higher octane fuel other wise youll damage your engine, but if you think about it running higher octane fuel generally ony cost almost 3 dollars more to fill the tank.. and its better for your engine in the and youll get a small precentage better fuel mileage running it.

I just did some speed reading so I may have missed it...

What is your stock rear diff. gear ratio? I have always heard that the Z71s come with 4.10 rear diffs. However, if yours does not... then your could throw that in there or something even lower. If going from a 3.08 to a 4.10 that would be a 25% increase in tq for only a couple of hundred. You know what I am saying? Of course that would also translate into better fuel economy in the city and worse fuel economy on the hwy... but better towing, off-roading, and red light racing(not that I would ever do that lol).
