Normal gas mileage for 2006 2500 with 6.0

Postby seayall [OP] » Sep 02 2010, 3:24pm

I have a 2002 Yukon XL and it has been GREAT, so I added to my GMC collection last week and bought a 2006 2500 with the 6.0 engine and it has a 4.10 ratio with only 35K miles. My question is what should I expect in regards to MPG on the highway? Seems to be staying around the 14 - 15 area so far. What's "normal"

Thanks for any feedback.

First off, welcome to the site, we are glad to have you join us. As for the fuel mileage it sounds about average. I know in my 1500 with the 5.3 im getting about the same so it sounds about right considering the slightly larger engine and added weight of the 2500 vs 1500
Crap, my hampster fell off the wheel and it broke its leg.

I don't know what to expect either - I'm another newbie - just got my Sierra 1500 this week. I was curious if the Z71 gets the same gas mileage as the others. I've got the 5.3 flex fuel engine - does that make it better or worse or no difference?

I'd say you're doing alright at 14-15. My brother in law has an '05 GMC Crew Cab 2500HD 4x4 with the 6.0L and he's lucky to get 12 highway.

With that low of gear, I would think that should be about right. You probably get that loaded or unloaded too. Only had one Chevrolet "1985" 2500 with 4.10 and 5.7 and it was 13mpg or so and just as fast loaded or unloaded. Enjoy.
Thank you
Ken

2007 1500 6.0 and I get 15.5 avg-tuned to 93 octane with the AFM turned off, and that includes trailering a boat.
