Oil pressure acting crazy

Oil pressure acting crazy

Postby 77ihwheeler [OP] » Aug 02 2011, 2:43am

I have a 97 tnx swords with the 5.7 I was driving my truck around today and noticed that the oil pressure gauge was jumping around a lot then on my way home the needle dropped below the 20 psi mark and the check gauge light came on at an idle as soon as I press the gas oil pressure climbs. It was a quart low so I filled it but that didn't seem to make a a difference. I let it cool down and starte it and let it idle up to operating temp the oil pressure is still jumping around a lot between 20 and 40 psi. I did replace the sensor a few months ago. Any ideas?

I think you still have a bad sensor or a bad connection at the sensor. The next step is to ask around your buddies and Get yourself a mechanical oil pressure gage and check the pressure. Have you recently changed the oil? Inspected the oil? Any whipped cream under your oil cap?

I changed out the sensor and it seems to be fine now if anything the oil pressure is high. I recently had to replace the head takers and the rest of the top head gaskets so I'm thinking that having that water mixed in with the oil messed up the sensor
