Carb'd 350 in '94 Sierra 1500

Original engine?

Postby pap5094 [OP] » Jul 20 2011, 3:32pm

Hey guys just want to say hi as this is my first post here at silverado/sierra and I have a question for you experts. I purchased a '94 sierra 1500 flareside about a month ago and I was surprised to see that it has a carb'd 5.7L under the hood. Is it correct to assume that this is not the original engine configuration? The truck has about 170,xxx miles and the engine still feels strong along with the tranny. Thanks guys, any info would be great ----- Phil

I'm no expert, but that might be the original. My 97 Sierra had the 5.7 (fuel-injected, though), and the tranny\motor still felt young, even though it had around 300,000 on it.

Have you punched in the VIN code yet? That should solve any questions you have. http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

Hey thanks for the reply. The VIN came back as the 5.7L. My real question is does anybody know if carburetors came standard on a '94? I thought they were done back in the later '80s.

No, 1986 was the last year for a carb engine.

Are you sure its a carb you are looking at. The Throttle Body Injection used up to 1995ish resembled a carb as it sat on the top of the intake just like the carbs did but used fuel injectors in the throttle body. 1996 had port injectors.

Hey guys, this is not an engine specific question but I figured I would continue the thread I already made because of the information given. As stated earlier my '94 sierra has 170xxx miles on it. Is there anything I should watch out for? Motor mounts, bearings, rear diff fluid, etc? Thanks in advance --Phil

my father in law has a 94 2500 he uses it on the farm since brand new, and abuses the heck out of it. Its had a hard life, and it still runs strong, besides fixing small minor issues. Should be a good truck for ya
Crap, my hampster fell off the wheel and it broke its leg.
