Truck surges while driving

Surge typical while driving uphill. Applying the brake makes it go away

Truck surges while driving

Postby qzlr2d [OP] » Nov 14 2011, 5:44pm

When driving either on a flat road or uphill typically, my 1996 K1500 V8 305CI surges a bit. If you keep the accelerator steady, and apply the brake while you still have the accelerator steady, the surging immediately goes away. I've had one guy tell me it's the Torque Converter Clutch Lockup Solenoid and another mechanic tell me that is definitely not it. I'm stuck and don't know who to believe. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

It doesnt sound like a torque converter problem. Put a scan tool (not a code reader) on it and check all the sensors. Throttle Position Sensors have been known to cause symptoms like this if they are out of adjustment or defective.

I had a similar problem on my 95 1500. I could floor it and no problem but trying to keep a steady speed the truck would serge. It turned out to be my O2 sensor. That's what the dealer said.

hope you find the problem
