10 series install

Postby sweitzRTR14 [OP] » Jul 27 2012, 6:46am

I just bought an 09 Sierra ext. cab 5.3l silver birch metallic (chrome edition). This is my first v8 and I am loving it. I love the v8 purr but I still want to put an exhaust on it. I want a flowmaster 10 series, if not then my second choice is a 40 series. I have 2 questions...

A- I want to put a nice flowmaster muffler on my baby because the nice tone but I want to leave everything stock. Is there a way to install a 10 series to the stock pipes? The 10 is much smaller obviously but i do not want to cut or put a cat back or true dual until I hear it and am satisfied with the AFM.
B- Since I am not cutting I prefer not to weld. Is there is a way to keep stock pipes with a 10 series that I can bolt on? I prefer bolt on because I am not very handy or commited to the aftermarket muffler till I hear it on my own truck. If I dont like it I want to be able to put the stock back on.

Please let me know if it is possible to install a 10 sieres flowmaster using stock pipes and bolt on application.

Thanks, Matt

Yes it is possible. Your going to have to buy some pipe to fill in since the 10 is smaller. They make clamps for exhausts, thats what most cat backs come with is clamps.

If I am buying a filler pipe how would I go about doing that in a safe/ smart way with the clamps? Any suggestion?

it sounds good to modify your exhaust to your liking and even though it may seem easy to do it on your own i would always suggest you take help of some one who has experience as well as proper in doing such kind of jobs as this will save your precious time as well as your hard earned money and you will really be satisfied with a job well done.

Just use exhaust clamps. I installed a turndown pipe with clamps on my Flowmaster 40 series. Parts cost a little over $10, only needed a socket set to install.

Use band clamps, they come in stainless steel and seal the pipe that is joined as compared to a regular muffler clamp.

I've used the Summit band clamps and they are nice.

Where do I find a filler pipe? What size are the stock pipes and should my filler be smaller or larger or same size as stock piping?

Ok I think I am just going to remove the muffler and replace it with a delete tube. They sound just about the same but a hell of a lot cheaper. If this is a good or bad idea let me know because I am going to do it in the next day or so.

Thanks, Matt
