14" vs 18" Magnaflow Muffler?

Postby Success [OP] » May 09 2011, 8:29pm

I have decided after reading numerous forums that I am changing my stock muffler to a magnaflow muffler. I can't decide on the size. I want it to rumble when I get on it but not too bad in the cab when cruising. Does anyone have experience with this setup in a nnbs chevy? Specifically a '10 silverado 5.3 tuned by Black Bear.
Thanks
James

Magna and Glasspacks are pretty similar. I ran 18" glasspacks on my 2011 5.3 and it's perfect. Nice sound, low cab noise, and she can bark if I want it to, or keep quiet if I want as well. The shorter you get, the louder she'll be and harder to keep quiet. Kinda the opposite we were taught growing up :D

14" vs 18" magnaflow muffler?????

Postby Success [OP] » May 14 2011, 7:52pm

Ended up getting a 22" magnaflow. It's exactly how I wanted it to sound. I don't think I would gave liked a smaller one.

What size exhaust tip does anyone recommend? I'm looking at some powdercoated ones.

Glad your happy with the 22"! I love my 4x9x18" and think house is probably just a little bit quoted than mine, just got it installed thursday. I get a small amount of resonance from 1200-1700 rpm while excelerating but have nothing while maintaining a speed. How about you? I think a dual walled 4" tip always looks nice.

14" vs 18" magnaflow muffler?????

Postby Success [OP] » May 15 2011, 1:10am

I feel like the drone is there when accelerating and the transmission is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. No drone in 4 cylinder. I think an 18" would have been fine now but im glad I played it safe. I didn't want to rattle windows or wake up my neighbors. I just wanted less restriction.
How long on the exhaust tip: 18"?

I think I would have been fine with the 22" as well but more than happy with the 18". The 18" tip is probably long enough. If you're running the stock pipe I would measure from where you want the pipe to stop from where you want it to start and the shoo from there.
