Best flowmaster

Postby alanJello [OP] » Dec 28 2010, 7:01pm

Hey everyone

I have a 98 k1500 with the 5.7 in it. I want to make it sound great using a flowmaster muffler. I plan on adding another pipe to make it true duals. My only problem is that I do not know which muffler would be best. I want it to be as loud as I legally can. I prefer a deep sound as opposed to a lighter one but i dont know which would be best

Thanks in advance
Please help

As for flowmaster I would say the Super 44 sounds amazing. I went with a super 40. I would recomend checking out youtube and listening for yourself and go from there.
Crap, my hampster fell off the wheel and it broke its leg.

I used to have a 97 Sierra with the 5.7. I put an American Thunder kit on the truck. I don't remember what the exact muffler was, but I do remember two things- the sound was literally perfect for me- nice and deep and mellow, but after I hammered it, the volume went way up. I turned heads with that truck. Going through tunnels was a lot of fun. Also, the power went way up- I pulled out of the shop parking lot with a big smile on my face- not because of the noise, but because of the new kick in the pants. It had over 250,000 miles on it, but the exhaust kit coupled with the cold air intake really injected some life into the truck.

Thank you everybody for your input. Although I have to say, I saw an old buddy of mine the other day who had just put dual original 40's on his and I loved how it sounded. The one thing that I didnt think to ask him was where he got pipe from. I do not have access to a pipe bender and would really appreciate input on where I could get prebent pipe, both for the new dual I have to run, and to replace the pipe a have on there already

Thanks again

I got my system off of Autoanything.com. It's a little confusing, with all of the choices they have for exhaust kits, but they have the best prices, plus free shipping on most orders. I love the site. I think I paid around $250 for my American Thunder kit. It came with mandrel-bent pipe, a muffler, and chrome tips.
Keep us posted on your progress...

Thank you very much for your autoanything suggestion, I had a look around on it and found a couple of other accessories I plan on adding to my truck however the one problem was that I couldn't find anything that was just pipe. I could very well have missed it, but please if you know anywhere which would sell a stock pipe, and another pipe to run a true dual out the other side that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again

If I remember correctly, the 5.7 has the pipes from the headers meet up past the cat. converters, and then go to one pipe into the muffler. The kit I had did the same setup, but it ran twin pipes out from the muffler. I'm pretty sure you can have a muffler shop or performance shop do virtually anything with the exhaust- the only limits are your budget.
I've found that the live chat feature on autoanything.com is very helpful; also, you can sniff around on the manufacturer's web sites (Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc) for more info.
