Unless you have a reason (inspection to pass) I would leave it like it is.

Do you have mufflers or just straight pipe? If you have nothing to deaden the sound I would throw on a pair of short mufflers (14" Magnaflows maybe?!) to dampen some of the harshness of a straight pipe exhaust with no cats. That and a pair of mufflers are a lot cheaper than cats.

Yeah, unless you need them, don't put them on- they're a lot more pricey than a good muffler.

if you already have the cats, a welder, some beer/time and want to throw them on then by all means do it. i'd kinda like to put mine back on because im getting tired of my wife complaining about the volume lol.

Yeah - you're nuts!!! If you live where you can do without them then do without them. Contrary to what some government suck would tell you, a catalytic converter CAUSES smog! Their purpose is to convert oxides of nitrogen and hydrocarbons into sulfur dioxide. So what color is sulfur? The same color as smog!!!!

Oct of 78 I bought a brand new Jeep CJ5. It has a 300 six cylinder and 4 speed trans. The first thing i did to it was to take off the converters and beat a pipe through them so all the platinum bb's came out of it, and re-installed the converter.!!! Next I took the Jeep to a friend who ran a smog-testing station. he put the sniffer in the pipe, loosened the distributor, and set the timing so that it passed the smog test! And it also passed the California smog test when we moved there, a year later!!!!!

Catalytic converters CAUSE smog and reduce the flow of your vehicle's exhaust, which, in turn, reduces fuel mileage, which in turn creates MORE smog!!!!! They do NOT reduce it and anyone who tells you they do works for the government ......or SHOULD!!!

Ditch the converters.

Case closed!!

Man how much weed did you smoke in the 70s? Lots changed since 78. I just LOVE. Riding behind a vehicle with no cats. The smell of unburnt fuel really turns me on.
