I'm looking at putting a Dynomax VT muffler in place of my stock muffler and leaving everything else stock. Its a 2009 4.8. Anybody have this setup or anything near it? Does it sound good? Any opinions on how to do it or how not to do it?

I've only used Flowmasters in my truck. Unless you're really picky, anything sounds better than stock. Do you have a link to the specific muffler?

Stars, it is a specific muffler from Dynomax. The VT series has a springloaded valve in the pipe that opens under increased exhaust gas pressure letting the exhaust go straight out the pipe vs. through the baffeling. 430, I have only heard it on YouTube and that never sounds like it would in person.

Youtube is the only place I've heard it as well. The main reason I drawed to it is that it's not supposed to drone when you're going down the highway. Not had any experience with exhaust and most of my friends have diesels so I'm kinda in the dark. Mostly looking for a deep sound when I'm on the throttle but I don't particularly care for the constant drone--and cheap$.

If you go this route you will have to give us a review on it. I think most of us go with Magnaflow and Flowmaster.

Still milling this in my mind. How bad would it drone if I was to straight pipe it? It would definitely be cheaper.

You've got the 5.3L, correct? All the guys that I've talked to say that the 5.3L sounds really nice with just pipes...

Hate to kick a dead horse but does anybody here have a 4.8 with a straight pipe in place of the mufffler? Hows it sound and is it extremely loud or just real loud when you get on it? I've looked on youtube but can't tell much about it.

Just have a shop weld in a pipe in the stock mufflers place (shouldn't cost too much, a couple of feet of 3 inch pipe, two bends and two welds) and if you don't like it give the Dynomax VT a shot.
