Exhaust Cab Noise

How to lessen it

Exhaust Cab Noise

Postby twday87 [OP] » Apr 06 2011, 10:52pm

Okay so I installed single in dual out flowmaster super 44 dual exhaust just a couple days ago. It sounds GREAT outside the truck. It even sounds great inside the truck unless i'm between like 1500 and 2100 rpms. which it'll sit around 2200 rpms when i'm running about 80 on the interstate. I really don't want to replace the muffler with another one because I love how deep it is. Are there any suggestions on how to deaden the interior noise just a little bit? I'm open to suggestions. Don't get me wrong I was looking for a loud/deep muffler but I didn't realize it'd rattle my brains at 2000 rpms.

Just as a last resort.. would the super 40 be better inside the cab?

I have the same issue with my 50 series- at certain RPM, it will drone really bad. Two options that I would suggest are: learn to live with it, like I did (I don't even notice it now), or call up Flowmaster and ask them what they recommend. Keep us posted as to your findings!

This might be a dumb question but is there a wrap for mufflers? Like a dyna wrap? Haha
I thought the 50 series was rather quiet?

Another question about it was where have you all put your hangers for customs duals? I only put my hangers right near the exhaust tips behind the back tires.. is there an existing hole in the frame close to the muffler for the 2 pipes?

Adding a small resonator will help. Here are Magnaflow's........

I would go with a 4" round with 3" in and out and with it's straight through design it should keep your deep tone and cancel out some of the resonance. Just make sure to measure between your cat back flange and muffler to make sure it will fit.

Does the resonator connect from the headpipe directly into the muffler?

It can go anywhere between the cat back flange to the muffler and technically any where aft of the flange, GM SUV's and the 6.2 trucks have them just behind the axle from the factory. I would recommend welding it in so that there are no leaks.
