Gibson headers well worth the money.

Gibson headers well worth the money.

Postby chuck75 [OP] » Mar 01 2011, 1:03pm

well I got my ceramic coated headers installed and I definatly notice them. not so much the sound cause there no where near as loud as I thought they would be. the install was somewhat smooth but dropping the damn bolt for the back hole right down into the exuhast pipe kinda sucked. other than that it was easy. I got a case of the "whileyouratit itus" and installed a set of e3 spark plugs.
The headers make a good diffrence at low end power. notice that take off from a light with out craming it to the floor, I'm usually the first one off the line. the sound is nice a mellow and very smooth.
Fuel milage, uh, well I guess it makes a little diffrence as it doesnt take long to get to crusing speed. 8-)
These e3 plugs, well lets just say WOW, I put them in my truck after tring them in the wifes colorado in line 5 cyl. you deffinatly notice a smoother idle and a small boost in power. now its not push you back in the seat boost but you can tell its diffrent.
Well thats what I did this weekend, what did you do?

I went bowling and drank a lot of beer this weekend..........

I've heard conflicting stories about headers voiding the powertrain warranty. Do you know if this is true?

Agree Chuck. I've got the Gibsons as well and thought they were worth the price. I might have to look at those E3 sparky's you mentioned.

Hartski, I never had any powertrain issues so I couldn't tell you. After all, it's a GM; how could I have powertrain issues?
Marine because.

I cant say as for the warranty. I certainly cant see a problum with warranty cause its a direct bolt in product that does not remove any O2 sensors or hack up the exuhast. the E3s are a bit pricey but I really like the diffrence they have made in both the colorado and my silverado.

Did you install the shorty or long tubes? I'm getting ready to put on some Pacesetter ceramic coated long tubes, y pipe and hi flow cats here pretty soon, 08 silverado, 5.3. Magnaflow exhaust already installed. I'm really curious to see how much a difference it makes. How much were those spark plugs?

I've experienced long tubes into high flow cats. You'll be happy trust me.

Hey just out of curiosity, anybody gone with some high performance spark plug wires? Between some good spark plugs and wires, worthwhile performance gains or mpg?

This was a very useful post! One question that has always been a concern of mine is where the headers help - high end or low end power. Low end should result in improved mileage as well as a boost in useful power where most people drive. High end power may get you from 120mph to 130mph, but that's not what my truck will be about. How many miles did you have on your old plugs before putting in the E3's? Is it possible you are just feeling the efects of fresh plugs, and not necessarily because of the E3 design? Finally, if we can agree that an engine is just an air pump, would a CAI and synthetic oil improve your performance/mileage even more?
Appreciate your thoghts on these matters.
Glen
