You do not want a short muffler on the AFM engines, as you will have drone. Magnaflows are not loud, they make moderate/medium aggressiveness when it comes to "noise" (much lower frequency than chambered mufflers). They produce a nice throaty tone.

To compare and contrast: I have a Dynomax Ultraflo, with a 20 inch shell/body. It soaks up most of the unwanted resonance, and it still has a heck of a bark when you lay on the pedal. I find it a little too loud, but others think it is quiet. I'm not one who likes loud exhausts, I'm all about the throaty rumble. Long story short, that 18" would be the bare minimum length that I would remotely consider, unless you are doing duals.

how loud is the magnaflow 14"?

I have the 14in. Pretty loud. You feel it in the floor at certain rpms. Kinda wish I went with the 18in. I would record it for you but videos don't do it justice.

how loud is the magnaflow 14"?

As far as I know it will be. From what I read the 24in is pretty much the same as stock. 18in should be nice and mild.

Not sure if you are stuck on magnaflow but i put a gm performance on mine from borla. Basically a direct fit, not too much difference than stock on start up. It does open up nice and deep when you put a little throttle to it! If you interested i can check back and see what order number it was through borla.

I just replaced my Magnaflow 14" after 7 years, because of the drone. It had a nice loud start-up, low rumble at idle, and pretty good WOT as well...but the drone, the drone, the drone... I just couldn't take it..

So it was cut out, and I put in a Corsa catback. Much better sound at start-up, acceleration, and zero drone. I'm working on a video of both systems installed, although as someone mentioned it's hard to get the true deepness of the sound.
