In Cab Exhaust Noise

In Cab Exhaust Noise

Postby Silveradobrad [OP] » Feb 06 2011, 8:56pm

A friend of mine has an exhaust shop and has offered me a nice deal on dual exhaust. For $300 out the door he said he will use an H pipe back to 2 glass packs with stainless steel tips. I drive a lot for work I was wondering how the in cab noise level will be, will I be able to hear my radio ok? Years ago I had a single in dual out flowmaster on my F150 and the noise level was not bad at all.

Glass packs don't resonate near as much as flows do. I'd say you'll be fine. I always liked glasspacks over the sound of flows on my 1500s and they didn't make your head rattle or anything at any certain rpms.

Hopefully the installer finds a way to properly support the new exhaust with new hangers. So many times installers hurry up that part and later pipes will ring (vibrate) or sag and rub on other components. In the oem world of Engineering, exhaust systems are like guitar strings and they have to be tamed. Would you believe in some cases, Engineers had to actually install weights on exhaust systems to control vibration frequency? It's true! V6 Silverados have ALWAYS been a problem with vibrations.

Thanks for that info Gordon. I do remember having to bring my F150 back to the muffler shop because one of pipes was rubbing against a rear shock. The vibration sounded bad. I'm glad I know the person doing the work, I will ask all these questions. I am sure he will do a good job.
