Intake and Exhaust Question

Intake and Exhaust Question

Postby sydow1sc [OP] » Jan 18 2012, 11:10pm

Hey Guys,

I just installed a K&N 77 series intake on my 2011 silverado 5.3L. Everything else engine/exhaust wise is stock. Other than sound, would I see much difference with an aftermarket exhaust i.e flowmaster? It seems to me if more air is forced into the engine, I need to be able to release it just as fast. Any thoughts on what I should do regarding a new exhaust? Since I have dual stock cats, I was thinking I could get away with a straight pipe and still not sound too obnoxious. Any thoughts or suggestions?

You'll notice a nice increase in performance if you put on something like a cat-back exhaust system. I don't think you'll break any land-speed records, but with the intake, exhaust, and if you add a programmer down the line, you'll be very pleased with the results, trust me.

Any suggestions on what series of cat-back? Keeping in mind I am on somewhat of a budget.

Flowmaster is usually the cheapest. They make some of the best sounds, but it's not stainless steel like some of the better brands. I don't know if they make an American Thunder kit for your truck, but I had one once, and LOVED it.

I in the same boat with the same wants and I went with the Dynomax Performance 38495. It is all stainless steel and has no drone. It costs between 260 and 360 for the single pipe that goes on just like the stock exhaust. Heres a clip showing it installed and compares the sound to the exhaust on a 2010 silverado lt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXUPqV2eJjE
