Magnaflow catback over just a muffler- which is better

Postby Browny10783 [OP] » Nov 24 2010, 11:56pm

I want to do Magnaflow, but I'm not sure which is better. Is doing a catback really that much better than just swapping out the muffler. Thanks for the help. Ps I have a 2010 5.3.

I personally think that with the newer exhaust systems from the factory are free flowing and mandrel bent and that the weakest link is the huge/heavy muffler. Replacing it with a magnaflow straight through muller will help a lot. I lean towards cat back though because it is a clean install that I can do myself and if someone where to look at my exhaust it doesn't look hacked up. I am about to pick up the 15564, from banditexhaust.com (had the best price and communication), because it has the largest muffler and is hung by the muffler and not the tail pipe (I plan on pulling the tail pipe and dumping it under the bed with the option to go back). Sorry if I rambled and hopefully it helps.

That makes allot of sense. I'm really just going for the sound and I know a muffler shop that does an awesome job. I figured the stock exhaust on a new truck would be better than my previous trucks. Thanks for tue feedback guys.

Awesome. Do you get any weird sounds from the exhaust when the cylinders deactivate. Just wondering. The guy I spoke to at 4 wheel parts said it would make a pinging sound, but it's not obvious. Kinda made me think twice about it.

I actually hear the pinging with my windows down driving about 20 through my neighbor hood with the stock exhaust. I would like to know if it gets with a free flowing muffler as well.

What inlet out let diameter/offset are y'all using with just a drop in muffler? 3" center/center?

Which Magnaflow muffler was used? I'm also considering changing mine out. I've heard when it switches to 4cyl mode it sounds like crap but you can deactivate it with a programmer.
